Cosmic Journey
The Maryknoll Ecological Sanctuary covers 2.8ha of wooded area with old growth pine trees and plant species endemic to the Cordillera Region of the Philippines. Art installations along the Cosmic Journey depict the magnificent unfolding of the Universe Story.
"We are the first humans able to learn and live within this sacred revelation which gifts us with radical new insight into who we are, how we came to be, and why we are here"
Mary Southard, CSJ, "Once Upon a Universe, A Story of Our Time"
The Cosmic Journey is a nature walk through fourteen stations celebrating the Great Story of our cosmos.
In the face of serious destruction of our land, waters, and air, the story of the Earth challenges us to bring new justice and imagination to our role within creation.
Reflecting on the profound spiritual meaning of the interconnectedness of the cosmos can prepare us to make wise decisions in relation to the use of the Earth’s resources so that future generations may inherit from us a beautiful planet capable of inspiring and sustaining life.
We invite you to enjoy a guided, scientific meditative walk or Cosmic Journey beginning from the Primal Fireball or the Big Bang to the Emergence of Religious Traditions.
On the trek you will find replicas of the Tabon Caves of Palawan and the Sagada Cave, giving you a glimpse of the cultural and religious traditions of our ancestors and their place in the unfolding of the Universe Story.
You will cross a hanging bridge connecting the caves to a typical Igorot village showcasing Ifugao, Kalinga and Ibaloi huts.
Amidst a biodynamic garden and a small coffee plantation, you will see butterflies and hear bird songs.
