Maryknoll Sunbeams
The Maryknoll Sanctuary Sunbeams is an integrated earth education program for young people. Its aim is to offer ecological literacy to children between the ages of 3 and 5 years old. This opens the door for children to live in love, peace, and harmony with Mother Earth and the natural world. To maintain their sense of wonder, parents are encouraged to be their companions so they are able to share and continue to have a great sense of awe and gratitude to Mother Earth and share the beauty of the world we are in. When they begin to love Mother Earth at a young age, they will certainly know how to treat and take care of it for the rest of their lives.
Objectives
1. To provide an alternative education program for young children that teaches love for Mother Earth and the natural world through exposure and exploration of their surroundings.
2. To bring an awareness and appreciation of the beauty of Mother Earth to the children and teach them to take care of her in their own simple ways.
3. To help restore the beauty of their surroundings by planting tiny seedlings and caring for them.
4. To encourage children and their parents to eat organic vegetables as part of a healthy diet.
5. To enable children to be creative by exposing them to artworks, music and dance.
Methodology
Children will be exposed to their natural surroundings as part of the ecological literacy program. Their education provides an opportunity for them to view their natural surroundings as a home where they can keep their excitement alive and discover the mystery of the world we are in. The children will be encouraged to experience what is to work with soil and care for the garden; they will plant small seedlings, water the plants and remove weeds. They will also be encouraged to celebrate the Earth’s story through role play, art works and dance.
Children participate in the program on a daily basis, from 9 until 11 a.m.
Enrollment
If you are interested in bringing your children here, there is a registration fee of P500/year and a monthly tuition fee of P750. For more information please contact 442-4602.
